Fee Policy
Last updated: 25 March 2026
This document explains the fees charged by CaminoCabs and how payments work on our platform. CaminoCabs provides Intermediation Services only, facilitating Transportation Services between Passengers and Drivers. CaminoCabs invoices and collects payment of the fare in the name and on behalf of the Driver. Please read this carefully to understand the costs associated with using our service.
1. Taxi Fares
1.1 Fare Regulation
All taxi fares in Ireland are regulated by the National Transport Authority (NTA). Fares are calculated using a calibrated taximeter and are based on:
- Distance travelled
- Time spent in the taxi
- Applicable tariff rate
CaminoCabs does not set or control taxi fares. The fare you pay is determined by the taximeter in the vehicle, in accordance with NTA regulations.
1.2 Tariff Rates
| Tariff | When it applies |
|---|---|
| Standard Rate | Monday to Saturday, 8:00am to 8:00pm |
| Premium Rate | Monday to Saturday 8:00pm to 8:00am, all day Sunday, and public holidays |
| Special Premium Rate | Christmas Eve (8pm) to St. Stephen's Day (8pm), New Year's Eve (8pm) to New Year's Day (8pm) |
1.3 Fare Estimates
The fare shown in the CaminoCabs app before you book is an estimate only. The actual fare may vary based on:
- Traffic conditions
- Route taken
- Waiting time
- Time of day (tariff changes)
2. Technology Fee
2.1 What is the Technology Fee?
CaminoCabs charges a technology fee of €0.50 per completed trip. This fee covers the cost of operating and maintaining the platform, including the app, Intermediation Services, customer support, and payment processing.
2.2 When is the Technology Fee charged?
| Payment Method | Technology Fee |
|---|---|
| Card payment through the app | ✓ €0.50 charged |
| Cash payment to driver | ✗ Not charged |
Note: The technology fee is only charged when you pay for your trip using a card through the CaminoCabs app. If you pay the driver in cash, no technology fee is charged.
3. Payment Methods
3.1 Card Payment (through the app)
When you pay by card through the CaminoCabs app, CaminoCabs invoices you and collects payment of the fare in the name and on behalf of the Driver:
- The taxi fare (as shown on the taximeter) is charged to your card
- The technology fee (€0.50) is added to your total
- You receive a digital receipt via email
- Cancellation fees may apply (see Section 4)
3.2 Payment Authorisation (Holds)
When you request a ride with card payment, the following process occurs:
- Payment Hold: A temporary hold (pre-authorisation) is placed on your card for the estimated maximum fare. This reserves the funds but does not charge them immediately.
- Trip Completion: When the trip ends, the actual fare (based on the taximeter) plus the technology fee is charged.
- Hold Release: If the actual fare is less than the hold, the difference is automatically released back to your card. Release times depend on your bank (typically 1-7 business days).
- Additional Charge: If the actual fare exceeds the hold (due to route changes, traffic, or tolls), an additional charge is made for the difference.
Important: If the additional charge cannot be processed (insufficient funds, card declined), a debt will be recorded on your account. See Section 11 (Outstanding Debts) for details.
3.3 Destination Changes During Trip
If you change your destination during a card-paid trip:
- An additional payment hold will be placed for the estimated cost of the new route
- If your card does not have sufficient funds for the additional hold, the destination change will be declined
- At trip completion, only the actual final fare is charged, and any excess holds are released
3.4 Cash Payment (to driver)
When you pay the driver in cash:
- You pay the taxi fare directly to the driver at the end of the trip
- No technology fee is charged
- CaminoCabs does not issue a receipt – the driver is required to provide you with a taximeter receipt
- Cancellation fees do not apply for cash bookings
Important: We recommend always requesting a receipt from the driver when paying in cash. The taximeter receipt shows the fare, date, time, and vehicle details, which are essential for any future complaints or refund requests.
4. Cancellation Fees
Cancellation fees only apply to bookings with card payment. If you selected cash payment, cancellation fees do not apply.
4.1 Immediate Rides (On-Demand)
Free cancellation:
- Before a driver accepts your ride request
- After a driver accepts but before they arrive at the pickup location and have waited less than 5 minutes
€5.50 cancellation fee applies when:
- The driver has arrived at the pickup location and has been waiting for 5 minutes or more
- You fail to show up at the pickup location (no-show)
4.2 Scheduled Rides (Prebooks)
Free cancellation:
- At any time if no driver has accepted your Prebook
- At any time if a driver has accepted but has not yet activated the trip (i.e., has not started travelling to your pickup location)
- More than 30 minutes before the scheduled pickup time, even if the driver has activated the trip
€5.50 cancellation fee applies when:
- The driver has activated the trip (started travelling to your pickup location) and less than 30 minutes remain before the scheduled pickup time
Note: Prebooks (scheduled rides) require card payment. Cash payment is not available for prebooks.
4.3 Cancellation Fee Breakdown
| Component | Amount | Recipient |
|---|---|---|
| Driver compensation | €5.00 | Driver |
| Service fee | €0.50 | CaminoCabs |
| Total cancellation fee | €5.50 |
4.4 Cancellation Receipt
When a cancellation fee is charged, you will receive an email receipt showing the breakdown of charges.
5. Soiling or Damage Fee
In accordance with NTA regulations, if you soil or damage a vehicle to the extent that it must be taken out of service for cleaning or repair, the driver may charge you a soiling fee of up to €140.
This fee is:
- Set by NTA regulation, not by CaminoCabs
- Payable directly to the driver
- At the driver's discretion (up to the maximum of €140)
6. CaminoCredits (Promotional Credits)
6.1 What are CaminoCredits?
CaminoCredits are promotional credits that may be earned through promotional codes, referrals, or as compensation. Credits are stored in EUR in your account.
6.2 How CaminoCredits Work
- Credits are automatically applied to reduce the technology fee at trip completion
- Maximum discount per trip: €0.50 (the technology fee amount)
- Credits cannot reduce the fare paid to the driver
- Credits cannot be converted to cash
- Credits cannot be transferred to another account
- Credits cannot be withdrawn or refunded
6.3 Credit Expiration
CaminoCredits added to your account do not expire while your account remains active.
6.4 Promotional Codes
Individual promotional codes may have their own terms and conditions, including:
- Expiration dates
- Usage limits (e.g., one use per passenger)
- Eligibility restrictions (e.g., new users only)
CaminoCabs reserves the right to cancel or modify promotional codes at any time.
7. CaminoPoints Rewards Programme
7.1 Earning CaminoPoints
You can earn CaminoPoints by:
- Completing trips paid by card through the App
- Using the Signal feature
- Promotional offers
Note: CaminoPoints are only earned on trips paid by card. Cash payments do not earn CaminoPoints. The number of points earned per trip may vary and can be changed by CaminoCabs at any time.
7.2 Using CaminoPoints
CaminoPoints can be used to access the Signal feature, which broadcasts your pickup request to nearby Partner Drivers for faster pickups.
7.3 Point Expiration
CaminoPoints do not expire while your account remains active.
8. Receipts and Documentation
8.1 Card Payments
For trips paid by card through the app, CaminoCabs will send you a digital receipt via email containing:
- Trip details (date, time, pickup and drop-off locations)
- Taxi fare
- Technology fee
- Total amount charged
- Driver and vehicle information
8.2 Cash Payments
For trips paid in cash, CaminoCabs does not issue a receipt. The driver is legally required to offer you a printed receipt from the taximeter.
Always request a receipt from the driver when paying in cash. The taximeter receipt is essential for any complaints or refund requests.
9. Refunds and Disputes
9.1 When to Request a Refund
You may request a refund if:
- You were charged a different amount than shown on the taximeter
- You were charged in error
- A cancellation fee was applied incorrectly
9.2 How to Request a Refund
To request a refund, contact us through the Support section in the app. You must provide:
- The taximeter receipt showing the fare, date, time, and vehicle details
- A description of the issue
- Any supporting evidence
Important: Refund requests for fare discrepancies require the taximeter receipt as proof of the fare charged. Without this receipt, we may not be able to process your refund request.
9.3 Refund Processing
Valid refund requests are typically processed within 5-10 business days. Refunds are credited to the original payment method.

11. Outstanding Debts
11.1 When a Debt Occurs
A debt may be recorded on your account if:
- An additional charge for a completed trip cannot be processed (card declined, insufficient funds)
- A cancellation fee cannot be charged to your card
- Any other amount owed cannot be collected
Important: Outstanding fare debts are owed to the Driver, not to CaminoCabs. The Transportation Services contract is between you and the Driver, and when you fail to pay for a trip, the Driver does not receive their earnings for that trip until the debt is cleared. CaminoCabs collects such debts on behalf of the Driver.
11.2 Consequences of Outstanding Debt
- Account Restriction: You will be blocked from booking new rides until the debt is paid
- Automatic Payment Attempts: We will automatically attempt to charge any saved payment cards (including business cards) to recover the debt
- Card Restrictions: You cannot remove payment cards from your account while you have an outstanding debt
- Account Deletion Restriction: You cannot delete your account while you have an outstanding debt
- Email Notifications: You will receive email reminders about your outstanding debt
11.3 Clearing Your Debt
To clear your debt:
- Ensure you have a valid payment card with sufficient funds saved in the App
- The debt will be automatically charged when you next open the App, or during our regular automatic collection attempts
- If you have difficulty paying, please contact our support team
