Who Takes This Route?

Bray is the first large town in County Wicklow, about 19 km south of Dublin by Discover Ireland's reckoning, and it is a seaside resort with a long promenade, a beach between Bray Harbour and Bray Head, and a cliff path that runs on to Greystones.

Visitors staying near the seafront arrive with suitcases and want to reach the promenade end of town without changing vehicles. Walkers come to start the Bray Head to Greystones cliff path from the Bray end. Residents returning from a flight often land late in the evening. The Aircoach 702 timetable shows the last Terminal 1 departure at 23:30, reaching Dalkey Village at 00:33, so anyone landing later than that has no coach and still needs a way to cover the final stretch into Bray.

The Route, Tolls and Peak-Time Pinch Points

There are three main ways to drive to Bray. Times are shown for a clear road and for a weekday at 11:00 and 17:30.

RouteDistanceNo trafficWeekday 11:00Weekday 17:30
Via M5044 km40 min44 min63 min
Via M50 and M1148 km41 min44 min64 min
Via M50 and N1133 km53 min58 min72 min

The fastest drives stay on the M50 and then head south on the M11 or N11 corridor. The shorter 33 km option (via the M50 and N11) is the slowest at every hour: 53 minutes with no traffic and 72 minutes at 17:30. On the M50 route, the gap between 11:00 and 17:30 is about 19 minutes, so the evening peak is where a delay is most likely. Leaving Bray for the airport on a weekday afternoon, add that margin before anything else.

M50 toll (eFlow)

The barrier-free toll point lies between junction 6 (N3 Blanchardstown) and junction 7 (N4 Lucan), and it charges in both directions. Since 1 January 2026 a car pays €2.60 with a tag, €3.20 with a video account and €3.80 unregistered. The driver adds the toll to the fare, as the NTA rules provide. Sources: eflow.ie and tii.ie.

Dublin Port Tunnel (alternative)

If the driver goes through the Port Tunnel, the 2026 car toll is €3.50 at most times. Southbound traffic pays €14.00 on weekdays between 6am and 10am, and northbound traffic pays €12.00 between 4pm and 7pm. Those peak charges matter on this route: a Bray to airport journey on a weekday afternoon is northbound. Source: tii.ie.

The toll is on top of the meter. The metered fare plus any toll is the total, and the €3 booking fee is separate. On the M50 route that toll is between €2.60 and €3.80 for a car, depending on the toll account.

Aircoach 702 leaves Terminal 1 (Zone 2) and Terminal 2 (Zone 20) roughly hourly and serves the 3 Arena, Ballsbridge, Booterstown, Blackrock, Monkstown and Dún Laoghaire before ending at Dalkey Village. Per the Aircoach timetable, a coach leaving at 10:35 reaches Dún Laoghaire at 11:37, and a 16:35 departure reaches it at 17:37. It used to run to Bray, but it no longer does, so you need a second leg. From Booterstown, Dún Laoghaire or Dalkey, the DART continues to Bray.

Bus Éireann route 101 runs from Drogheda to Busáras via Dublin Airport. From Busáras you can pick up the DART in the city centre. It suits one or two people with a single bag and no deadline. Check times and fares on transportforireland.ie and irishrail.ie before you set off.

A taxi makes more sense once you have two cases, a connection to make on the other side of Bray, or an arrival after the coaches have stopped.

Pickup and Drop-off in Bray

Bray's beach is described by Discover Ireland as sitting on the town's sea front, 10 minutes on foot from Main Street and 2 minutes from the DART station. Bray (Daly) station is on Florence Road, Eircode A98 C8X4, which is an easy meeting point if you are joining friends who came by train. For a seafront hotel or guesthouse, give the full street address when you book so the driver can approach from the right direction. For a house in the residential streets, add the Eircode.

At the airport, your driver meets you at Arrivals once you pre-book. Include your flight number when you book.

The Return Trip to the Airport

Work backwards from your flight. The journey is about 40 minutes with a clear road and 63 minutes on a weekday at 17:30, so for an evening departure leave Bray before the peak builds. Add the toll point on the M50 and, if the driver uses the tunnel, a northbound weekday charge of €12.00 between 4pm and 7pm. Check your airline's check-in and bag-drop closing time and add your own margin. For early morning departures, book the evening before and name the pickup time.

Splitting the Fare

The meter runs per vehicle and each extra adult adds €1, so a group pays far less per head than a solo traveller. The totals below start from the middle of the Standard range (€81), without the €3 booking fee or any toll.

PassengersTotal (mid-range Standard)Per person
1 adult€81€81
2 adults€82€41
3 adults€83€27.67
4 adults€84€21

A party of five to eight can travel together in a 7 or 8 seater taxi. We do not provide child seats, so families should bring their own; the child seat page explains more.
